If there is just one reason why people visit National Parks, it has to be to discover some of the amazing trees and plantlife that call it their home. One of the most popular types of trees that people seek out is the magnificent Redwood trees. But why is this? What makes Redwood trees so popular? Where can you find Redwoods in Yosemite on your vacation?
What are Redwoods and what are Giant Sequoia’s?
If you are not an expert in trees, then chances are that you won’t be able to tell the difference between theRedwood trees and the Giant Sequoia’s. This is because as far as tree’s go, they are closely related. However, despite this, they do have some major differences that help you to differentiate between the two.
The main difference has to be the location in which they grow. The Redwood tree grows near the Pacific Ocean, which is along Northern California, particularly focused on the coast line where they can be found in a belt around 450 miles long and 15 miles wide.
The Giant Sequoia tree, which is the largest tree in the world, can be found in other places throughout California. In fact, these are the trees that we are proud to grow here at Yosemite. The redwood trees sometimes grow taller than Sequoias, but Giant Sequoia Trees beat redwoods in size by volume. They are much larger in diameter at the base which makes them qualify as the largest tree in the world.
